Winter Solstice - Once in 20 Year Event!

21 Dec 2020

Did you know the Winter Solstice takes place today, 21st of December 2020? This will be the day with the least daylight hours in the whole year.

The sun will rise at 8:38 am and will set at 16:08pm in Clontarf, giving us about 7 and a half hours of daylight. While this may sound depressing, it is good news as the days will only get longer from now on.

This year, the Winter Solstice will be even more exciting as Earth, Jupiter and Saturn will align to create a mesmerising sky. They will align to form the Great Conjunction that only happens every 20 years. A night for taking out your telescope - if you are lucky enough to have one.
