Wad River Flood Alleviation Works on Clontarf Promenade
)
A Message From Clontarf Residents' Association
Residents should be aware that essential flood alleviation works are being undertaken on the Clontarf Road and Promenade between Alfie Byrne Road and Hollybrook Road. These works are necessary to reduce the risk of flooding from the Wad River and to prevent a reoccurrence of the flooding that occurred in August 2023 at the Castle Court and Auburn apartments.
The works, which are due to conclude in early September, involve:
- Provision of an additional outfall culvert from the Clontarf Road,
- Provision of an additional sea outfall,
- Sealing of manholes, and
- Repair of the existing sea outfall.
These works will mean that a section of the Promenade will be closed during the summer. Additionally, part of the promenade carpark near that location will also be closed to serve as a compound. See Site Layout Plan here.
The current footpaths and cycling routes will be maintained until June after which diversions will be necessary for both pedestrians and cyclists. These diversions will be clearly marked once they come into force.
Traffic Management measures will come into force on Tuesday 6th May next, after the bank holiday. A copy of the Traffic Management plan can be seen here. Residents should note the following:
- The last Bus Stop before Alfie Byrne Road, opposite The Seapoint Building, will be moved back 25m towards Hollybrook Road.
- Inbound traffic on the Clontarf Road will be reduced to one lane from Hollybrook Road to Strandville Ave E/Hollybrook Grove.
- Outbound traffic on the Clontarf Road will be reduced to one lane from Alfie Byrne Road to Strandville Ave E/Hollybrook Grove.
- Traffic turning right from Alfie Byrne Road onto Clontarf Road will be reduced to one lane.
