VERY IMP UPDATE ON PLAYING FIELDS @ ST ANNES
** VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE ON ST PAUL'S/ST ANNE'S **
Last Thursday (1st November 2018), Crekav sought and were granted leave to take a Judicial Review of An Bord Pleanála’s decision to refuse planning permission for 104 houses and 432 apartments in 5 and 8 storey blocks on the St. Paul’s playing fields. This means that Crekav is now challenging the legality of the Board’s decision to refuse permission, just as we challenged the legality of the Board’s original decision to grant permission. If they are successful, the plan for large-scale development on the playing fields at St. Paul’s will be back on the table.
While we are not a party to these proceedings, Judge Barniville, who will hear the case, directed that we are served with a copy of the papers in case we wished to be joined in the proceedings. Our legal team are currently reviewing the papers and considering the various legal avenues now open to us. We will provide a further update when we have had an opportunity to review these advices.
It is clear that while we succeeded in having the original flawed decision overturned, the threat of development at St. Paul’s, with all that this implies for St. Anne’s park, remains substantial. We must continue to be vigilant in our campaign to protect St. Anne’s now and into the future.
