Update on Sea Wall from Clontarf Residents' Association

04 Mar 2016

We have been asked to publish the following update regarding the Sea Wall,  on behalf of the Clontarf Residents’ Association;

The Independent Consultant, appointed by DCC, to examine the sea wall, Dr Jimmy Murphy, presented his report to us at a meeting with DCC last Friday, 26th February.

While Dr Murphy agrees with DCC that a flood defence height of 4.25m “is justified based on the design criteria used”, he has recommended a change to the design criteria which would allow up to 200mm to be taken off the wall opposite the Park.

DCC have said they will be bound by Dr Murphy’s report and have agreed that the wall opposite the Park can be lowered and that they are prepared to reduce it by the full 200mm.

While this would not reinstate the view to its previous level it is still a very welcome move.

We are due to meet again on 11th March and in the meantime both sides have agreed to see where there is room for compromise within our respective positions.
