Tribute to Geraldine Lockhart

Geraldine Lockhart The following tribute is posted on behalf of the Clontarf Residents' Association:

"Our much loved secretary passed away on Wednesday the 21st December last. Geraldine, who lived on Vernon Avenue, was an integral part of the C.R.A. for many years. She was tireless in her work for Clontarf which she loved dearly.  Geraldine’s last duty for the C.R.A. was the legal arrangements in relation to the set up of the loveclontarf.ie website and her expertise was invaluable.

Due to her illness she was unable to attend the C.R.A. meetings for the last few months. However, she followed each and every development from her sick bed. Indeed Geraldine’s last text message to the committee was to congratulate us on helping to prevent the proposed flood defences.

Geraldine was wife and friend to Tony (Cleary) and mother, friend and business partner to Gerard (Cleary). Their legal practice, Lockhart & Cleary is located at 7 Annesley Bridge Road, Fairview, and it now continues in Gerard’s very capable hands. The adjoining house was, coincidentally, the original Lockhart family home.

Geraldine was a feminist in a very feminine way. Always looked her best, hair well groomed and neatly dressed; never in your face but quietly and intelligently she weaved her skills to advance whatever her case or cause was. Her strong sense of justice drove her in both her professional and personal roles.  She was difficult to say no to because she was invariably right. That said, she was a very easy person to work with. The community here in Clontarf has lost one of its most committed campaigners.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Tony, Gerard and her extended family."
