09 Aug 2018

Congratulations to local author, Bairbre Higgins, on the launch of her debut novel "The Torchbearer". Bairbre who was born in Cork but lives on the Clontarf Road spent the last 5 years carefully crafting the plot of the Torchbearers before publishing the novel this year. From Higgins' website;

"Seeking sanctuary, burnt-out fund manager Ariel Mignolet retreats to the New Mexican desert near Prospero, an isolated settlement steeped in religious fundamentalism. Long runs on remote trails and a new romance with local police officer Mike Argyll help forge a path back to sanity.

But weeks into their relationship, Mike is brutally murdered and Ariel narrowly escapes the same fate. The ensuing investigation unearths the truth about powerful local figures whose acts of prejudice and deception have torn families apart for decades"

National broadcaster and local Joe Duffy has given huge praise for The Torchbearers, likening Higgins' work to that of Martin McDonagh and John Connelly. Bairbre also received a full feature on The Gloss which you can read here.

The Torchbearers is available locally in O' Hara's Spar Vernon Avenue, as well as Book Haven, Dubray, Hodges Figgis and Fred Hanna Books. You can also purchase on Amazon here. Be sure to pick up a copy!
