Statement from Cllr Deirdre Heney re Fairview Cycle Track

23 Oct 2017

The following is a statement from Cllr. Deirdre Heney in relation to the Clontarf to City Centre Cycle Route. To respond to Cllr. Heney's statement please email her at heneydm@gmail.com.

"I am not at all happy with the way in which this matter has been dealt with by City Council management.

When the matter came before us at the 4th of September 2017 Monthly Council meeting I publicly voiced my opposition to the removal of a lane of traffic.

Then on 2nd October last when the matter came before the October monthly meeting, I and all my Fianna Fáil colleagues voted against the removal of one third of a kilometer of roadway from general traffic use as I stated at the earlier meeting that the change from removing 46 trees to removing a third of a meter of carriage from motor use was a fundamental change to that which went out on public display.

I most definitely favour the matter being re-examined, particularly as the removal of a traffic lane was not in the original Part 8 planning application.  I also feel the removal of the carriageway from use by general traffic will exacerbate an already intense traffic problem a the junction of Malahide Road Howth Road and the Clontarf Road."
