Sincere Thanks to The People of Clontarf

09 Dec 2016

Darren Clarke, a PhD student, based in the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units (ICARUS) in Maynooth University would like to sincerely thank all the Clontarf residents who took the time to complete a questionnaire which he and some colleagues distributed to households in late November 2016.

Darren is undertaking PhD research on community-based participation in climate change adaptation planning, with Clontarf and Skibbereen forming the two case studies of the research. As part of the research, he is interested in people’s opinions of the flood defences proposed between Wooden Bridge and the Causeway Road, how attached they are to living in Clontarf and how they viewed the public consultation process for these flood defences.

A similar questionnaire was distributed to residents in Clontarf in summer 2014 on the flood defences which were proposed for the promenade in 2011. The results of both questionnaires will form a core part of his thesis in helping to understand how climate change adaptation planning might be better facilitated in the future.
