Robbery at O'Hara's Spar on The Stiles Road

12 Jun 2015

There was a robbery at O'Hara's Sparshop on The Stiles Road yesterday. The owner, Gus O'Hara, has asked us to pass on the following message to you.

"You may be now have heard that we had a very threatening situation develop in my Spar store yesterday morning. At 7.40am two armed thieves ran into our shop on Stiles road as our Manager was opening up for the day.

They bundled her to the ground and forced her to deactivate the alarm and proceeded to steal a small quantity of cash from our Coin Press. They left the store shortly afterwards and my Manager while unhurt was very shaken by these thugs.

I write to you to-day to publicly express my thanks and that of our staff for the excellent work done by our local Garda, in Clontarf and Raheny and to our neighbours who raised the alarm. Too often the work of the Garda and concerned citizens goes unrecognised.

Due to the quick actions of our concerned neighbours in calling and directing the Gardaí and to the very fast response of both the Garda Patrol Unit and the Detective Unit on duty the individuals concerned were arrested a short time after the incident and the stolen money was recovered.

I would like to express the gratitude of all of us in O'Hara's Spar for the sterling work done by our Gardaí and to thank our near neighbours in reacting in such a community spirited way in protecting our staff.

Thankfully Clontarf is still very much a community that looks out for each other."

We hope that everyone at The Stiles Road Spar shop is recovering from this traumatic incident, and would like to remind residents to stay vigilant and always report suspicious behaviour to Clontarf Garda Station on 016664800.
