We're thrilled to share all the lovely details about the upcoming "Picnic on the Prom" event – a fantastic local celebration of our beloved North Bull Wall, the iconic Wooden Bridge, and our beautifully refurbished shelters.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 22nd, from 12 PM to 3:30 PM. This promises to be a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbours, soak up some fascinating local history and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere right here in Clontarf.

What to Expect on the Day:

The day's journey begins bright and early at 12 noon, meeting at the Wooden Bridge on the Prom.

Here, you'll kick things off with a captivating talk from local historian Dennis McIntyre on the rich history of the North Bull Wall, the Wooden Bridge itself and Bull Island. Dennis will be joined by poet Gerard Devine, a Clontarf native, who will recite his beautiful poem 'The Wooden Bridge. The Queen of Dublin 3.'

From there, we'll embark on a lovely walk along the Prom. Our next stop will be the newly refurbished Linear Shelter at the slipway. Get ready for another interesting talk, from Fergal Mc Namara, Conservation Architect, on the exciting restoration project.

You'll also have the chance to explore the shelter, which will be transformed into a fantastic exhibition, curated by Wonder Photo Clontarf, featuring photographs and original artwork by talented local artists – David Cotter, Colin Haverty, Amy Hennessy, Barbara Jennings, Helen Mooney, Ricardo Rea, Tripthi Rodrigues and the one and only Joe Duffy!

Our stroll continues to the Bandstand Shelter, just after the Baths, where another talk, from Dr Carole Pollard, Conservation Architect and Architectural Hisotorian, will delve into the history of the Prom itself.

And then? It’s time to find your perfect spot! Throw down your blankets, unpack your picnic and relax as you enjoy some lively
music from local groups. What a perfect way to spend a summer's afternoon!

The musical entertainment will start of with The Liffey Loves. They will be joined by local ukelele groups from CYBC, MUGs and Grangewoodbine playing as one. Shane Mc Grath of Mad Dogs will then take to the stage and the St George’s Brass Band will round out the entertainment.

Please walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the event.  There is plenty of bike parking available but car parking is limited. E-bikes and E-scooters must be parked out of the picnic area. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Remember the cycleway will be in use during the event so please take care crossing the road and be mindful of children playing near it.

A Special Treat: Trishaw Rides!

We're incredibly grateful to our wonderful friends at Clontarf Cycling Without Age who will be offering a few trishaw rides! This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who'd like to bring along friends, relations or neighbours. To arrange, please contact Colm directly on 086 810 8107.

This event is a brilliant collaboration, brought to you by Clontarf Business Association, Clontarf Residents' Association, Clontarf Tidy Towns and Deputy Lord Mayor Donna Cooney, with the support of Dublin City Council and Dublin Port.

So, pack your favourite picnic goodies, grab your blanket and gather your loved ones. We can't wait to see you for a memorable day on the Prom!
