New Dublin Bay Cycling Club Brings Excitement to Clontarf

09 Oct 2025

Great news for cycling fans! A fantastic new community group, the Dublin Bay Cycling Club, has officially launched, giving young cyclists right here in Clontarf, Raheny and Baldoyle a local club to call their own.

Driven by the growing success and huge interest in cycling among our local children, this new club is filling a significant gap on the Northside. While it formally launched in September, the team has been busy in training, making great use of the brilliant facilities in St. Anne’s Park and our stunning seafront cycle path.

A Local Club for Local Talent

For years, talented young cyclists from our area, who have even clinched All-Ireland championships, have had to travel further afield to find a club.

Club Chairperson, Colm Sevastopulo, highlighted the momentum: “This is a breakthrough moment for young cyclists on the Northside. Both myself and Club Secretary, Tony Woods, have been going into local schools to teach cycling skills and safety, and we've watched this interest grow stronger each year. The success of Irish riders like Ben Healy, Mia Griffin and Lara Gillespie has only boosted this.”

It’s about making cycling a visible, fun and accessible activity for every child. As Secretary Tony Woods points out,“Our goal is to make underage cycling highly visible in the community, to catch the eye of every child who loves riding their bike.”

And honestly, where else would you want to learn? We are so lucky to have access to some of the safest and most scenic cycle paths and greenways in Dublin; the perfect setting for developing skills!

It’s a Family Affair

It’s not just about the pros; it’s about community and family fun too!

Paddy Moloney, a local parent and founding member, shared what this means for families: "As a parent, it was a real struggle. Our son loves cycling like other children love football or GAA, but he had no local outlet to enjoy it with his own age group. He'd cycle up to Howth with us and ask, 'Why are there never any other children out here cycling?' Now, with the club, he's absolutely thriving. He's finally found a community of children his own age and is constantly learning new skills on the bike. It's exactly what was missing."

While the club has a strong emphasis on youth development, the Dublin Bay Cycling Club is open to all ages and abilities, making it a wonderful, family-friendly addition to our community.

Want to join the fun?

The club welcomes new members and hosts its weekly sessions every Sunday morning, meeting in St. Anne’s Park at 9 am. There are different group rides designed for all ages and skill levels.

Come along and check out this fantastic new venture!
