National Tree Week 2024

29 Feb 2024

National Tree Week is organised by the Tree Council of Ireland and Coillte.  It is an annual event to celebrate the beauty and importance of Ireland’s trees.  Full details of all events can be found here.

The theme for this year’s events is Planting Trees for a Greener Future.  Planting even a single tree in your garden can help to promote biodiversity and if, as a community, we plant sufficient trees it can help to mitigate climate change.

Want to get involved?  We have two options for you.

1. DCC are providing native tree saplings to residents on Saturday 2nd March.  They can be collected between 11am and 3pm from the carpark of the Northside Civic Centre.  The carpark is accessed from Adare Green.

2. Easy Treesie – Hiding a Forest in Plain Sight - has a mission to plant 1m trees in Ireland.  Later in March we will have a supply of bare root native species such as Birch, Hazel, Holly, Rowan, Elder, Hawthorn from Easy Treesie.  These trees will be supplied free of charge to residents and will be available for collection from Clontarf GAA Club.  If you would be interested in getting one or more saplings from us, please let us know by email to clontarf.res.assoc@gmail.com how many trees you would like and any preference you have in terms of species. We don’t know what mix of trees we will receive, so we cannot guarantee you will get your first preference but we will do our best.

If every garden gave over a small under or unused piece of ground to planting a tree think of how many more trees we could have here in Clontarf.
