National Biodiversity Week 2025

A message from Clontarf Residents' Association and Clontarf Tidy Towns regarding National Biodiversity Week 16th May – 25th May 2025.

National Biodiversity Week is a great opportunity to celebrate wildlife and to learn about protecting it.

This year, Clontarf will be the venue for a few of DCCs Biodiversity Week events.

1. Biodiversity Talk
by Declan Doogue, on Caleb Threlkeld, Dublin's Herbalist and Ecologist. Caleb Threlkeld provided the 18th century biodiversity baseline for Dublin. Friday 16th May – Red Stables, St Anne's Park - 10:30 to 11:15. Register here.

2. Saving our (remaining) Natural Habitats - putting Citizen Science to good purpose?
Presented by Declan Doogue. Friday 16th May – Red Stables, St Anne's Park - 11:45 to 12:30. Register here.

3. Bikes, Biodiversity and Bull Island
Guided cycle from Alfie Byrne Road to the Causeway Road taking in the unique landscapes and wildlife of Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere and North Bull Island. Saturday 17th May – Sails, Alfie Byrne Road - 11:00 to 13:30 Register here.

4. Tree Walk & Talk in St Anne's
with Ludovic Beaumont, DCC Tree Officer Thursday 22nd May – Red Stables, St Anne's Park - 11:00 to 12:15. Register here.

5. Field trip to Bull Island
to examine the flora and habitat on the island with Declan Doogue, leading Irish botanist. Friday 23rd May – Roundabout on Causeway Road - 10:30 to 13:00. Register here.

In addition, Clontarf Tidy Towns are hosting their Clontarf Tree Trail Walk with local author Niall Mac Coitir on Sunday May 25th. In his book ‘Irish Trees: Myth, Legend and Folklore', Niall brings to life the myths, legends and folklore associated with native Irish trees. He will share this knowledge during a tour of trees in Clontarf. The tour will last around 1 ½ hours. Meet at Belgrove Boys School at the corner of Seafield Road West and Vernon Court at 3pm.
