Millennium Day - 1000 Years The Battle of Clontarf 23rd April 1014

Today is a significant day as it is the official “Millennium Day” for the Battle of Clontarf and the death of Brian Boru on the 23rd of April 1014.

To commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf, President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, will be attending the Ecumenical Service in the Church of St. John the Baptist, Seafield Road West, Clontarf  at 12pm.  Read More....

Then this evening as part of the commemorative activities another historic battle will take place - Clontarf versus the Barbarians in the real Battle of Clontarf! Clontarf Rugby Club is marking the millennium anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf by hosting this momentous game between Clontarf Rugby Club and the world famous Barbarians FC in Clontarf Rugby Club grounds on Castle Avenue. And if it is history you want then we have two events taking place this evening. “Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf Evening Lecture” at 5.30pm in the Little Museum of Dublin, Stephens Green, Dublin. Followed later by “Battle of Clontarf Where it all ended” at 8.15pm in the Clasac, Alfie Byrne Road, Clontarf, Dublin.
