Lord Mayor attends Opening Event in Clontarf Golf & Bowling Club

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland today, 13th April 2022, will attend the official opening of the Ladies Bowling League of Ireland (LBLI) competition season. The event, which involves the unfurling of the LBLI Flag and a ceremonial ‘roll up’ of bowls will take place at Clontarf Bowling Club.

Clontarf Bowling Club hosts the Presidency of the LBLI throughout 2022. Ms Catherine Hazlett, a member of Clontarf Bowling Club, has taken up the role of President of the association for the year.

Speaking before the event, the Lord Mayor congratulated the LBLI on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the association. She said she was delighted to see the Clontarf Bowling Club in the Presidency role of the association at this important time in the development of women’s sport. She wished the President every success in her year in office and in her aims to promote and develop lawn bowls for women and men of all ages and all abilities.

In his remarks in welcoming the Lord Mayor, Mr Andy Cullen, President of Clontarf Golf and Bowling Club mentioned that the Club, with over 1,400 bowling and golf members, formed an important element of the community and social life in the locality and surrounding catchment area and that promoting inclusion, diversity and equality in sport are important priorities for the Club.
