Local Woman Cycling 750km for Cancer Society!

09 Sep 2021

We would like to wish good luck to local lady Kathy Kavanagh who will set off on a 750 km charity cycle Paris2Nice alongside 35 others this Friday 10th September.

All participants have chosen their own charities to raise money for, and Kathy, along with her two friends, will be riding for the Irish Cancer Society.

Sadly, Kathy's mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer during lockdown, and the positive advancements made in science with vaccines and anti-virals over the past year and a half really spurred Kathy to make a big push to raise money for this amazing charity. The Times featured both Kathy and her friend Orla in a recent article here, where they talk about their journeys.

All participants are required to raise €3k for their chosen charity, plus cover their costs. However, local physio Kathy promised her patients that if she got to €5k she would climb Mont Ventoux the day after arriving in Nice. This is a gruelling 21km climb that is part of the Tour de France. And with Kathy's Just Giving page at almost €9k it looks like she's accepting the challenge!

1 in 2 of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetimes. The Irish Cancer Society do incredible work in the field of cancer research and supporting those affected by and living with cancer. If you can spare any amount to help support Kathy's fundraising journey or even share with family and friends, it would be greatly appreciated. Link can be found here

Best of luck Kathy!
