LATEST SEAWALL UPDATE - Statement from local groups

01 Dec 2015

FLOOD WALL AT BULL ISLAND

Response to DCC’s Press Release of 16 November 2015.

We, the undersigned community groups, acknowledge the recent commitment by DCC to establish, albeit belatedly, the Environmental Monitoring and Liaison Committee which was an unmet condition of planning for the current works on the Clontarf Road/James Larkin Road.

We call on DCC to use this Committee as the mechanism for procuring the independent advice required to arrive at a solution which protects this sensitive coastline area adjacent to the UNESCO Biosphere and preserves the established visual and environmental amenity of the Nature Reserve and Special Protection Area.

We further call on DCC to address the specific issues raised in Mr. Morrissey’s letter of November 16th to the City Councillors setting out the outcome of the independent survey of heights.

Signed:
Clontarf Residents’ Association, Clontarf Business Association and Dublin Bay Watch.

[Note: Tomorrow we will publish some recent correspondence between DCC and local groups in relation to the seawall issue]
