Know a Local Legend? Dublin Port Launches Inaugural Community Hero Award

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond to make Clontarf and our surrounding coastal neighbourhoods a better place? Now is your chance to give them the recognition they deserve.
To mark the 25th anniversary of its Scholarship Programme, Dublin Port has launched the Community Hero Award. They are calling on local residents to nominate individuals who have made a standout contribution to the area.
The chosen Community Hero will receive a €1,000 personal prize, along with €2,000 to donate to a local good cause of their choice.
Celebrating 25 Years of Supporting Local Students
Since launching in 2001, the Dublin Port Scholarship Programme has provided €1.5 million in funding to 1,500 students across Dublin 1, 2, 3 and 4. Local feeder schools like St Joseph's CBS in Fairview have seen students go on to become neuroscientists, airline captains, paramedics and more.
Now, Dublin Port is expanding the celebration to honor the everyday heroes who keep our local communities thriving.
How to Nominate Your Local Hero
If you know a neighbour, volunteer, coach or organiser in Clontarf who constantly lends a helping hand, submitting a nomination is quick and straightforward:
Where to apply: Head over to the Dublin Port Website to fill out the entry form.
What to include: Share a short description of why your nominee deserves the award and the positive impact they’ve made in our community.
Key dates: Nominations are open now and close on Friday, 25 September.
The winner will be selected by the Scholarship Programme panel and invited to receive their award at a special 25th-anniversary event at the Gibson Hotel on Thursday, 15 October.
