In Memory of Joe McCabe
)
The current committee of the Clontarf Residents' Association have shared the following:
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of Joe McCabe.
Joe served on the committee of the Clontarf Residents’ Association over many decades and held the office of Chairperson on more than one occasion. He advocated tirelessly for Clontarf community and he was well known and respected for his efforts on our behalf.
Joe was also a local business man and proud owner of McCabe Auctioneers on Vernon Ave. He was a hardworking man of great integrity who served his community with dedication.
Joe was a passionate and dedicated voice for Clontarf. His commitment to the CRA, his business and to other local groups was unwavering. Thanks to his efforts, our community is stronger, more connected, and a better place for all who live here.
On behalf of CRA committee and membership, we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Phil, his children Oisín and Niamh and their partners, to his grandchildren and to his extended family and his friends. Joe’s presence enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will live on in the community he helped to shape with such dedication and care. Joe will be missed by those who knew him.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
Gus O' Hara, former chair of the Clontarf Business Association added that
"Joe was best known for his fantastic work over the years with the CRA. We worked very closely with him and the rest of the CRA committee especially in the flood defence campaign of 2011.
As a local estate agent, Joe was also a highly active member of the business community and was never afraid to get his hands dirty and I mean this literally. I recall several occasions where he was out at the bottom of Vernon Avenue clearing blocked drains after heavy rain.
He was always first up to volunteer to steward for community events on the promenade.
His thoughts on matters of importance to our community were always well thought out and worth hearing. He was also a man of the utmost integrity. And he had a great sense of humour
Joe will be remembered as a fierce and passionate advocate for what was best for Clontarf. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
Joe McCabe's funeral takes place tomorrow Monday at 10am in St. Anthony's Church Clontarf. Details here
