Have Your Say In EU Review Of Nature Conservation Laws

09 Jul 2015

The European Commission has launched a review of the EU Birds Directive and Habitats Directive, to assess whether objectives are being met and the policy sector is fit for purpose.

The Birds Directive and Habitats Directive administer the designation of Special Protection Areas (SPAs) for birds and wetlands. They also provide Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) for other important habitats and species. The Dublin Bay Biosphere, which spans over 300km² and includes the North Bull Island, contains many SPAs and SACs.

In order for the review to succeed, anyone interested in EU nature conservation is urged to impart their say on the subject. An online public consultation is now open and will run until July 24th.
