Hard Luck to Clontarf Rugby

17 Apr 2011

A try in the dying seconds of a hard fought game at Anglesea Road denied Clontarf a place in the final of AIL League.

Instead Belvedere move forward after a spirited never say die performance. Clontarf looked home and dry after a kicking a penalty with just over a minute left on the clock that left them 3 points clear. But Belvedere managed to get over for an incredible last gasp try as the clock ticked past 80 minutes.

It was heartbreaking stuff for Tarf fans and players alike. The team had been in front all the way and had dominated large parts of the game. On several occasions they threatened to pull clear but each time Belvedere stayed within reach.

Clontarf were under the most pressure mid way through the second half when they were down to 13 players and had only a 3 point cushion. However, they limited the damage by only conceding 3 points leaving it level going into the last few minutes.

Bernard Jackman and his team will be feeling very disappointed today but they should look at the positives from a great season. With plenty of youth in the team, we can feel confident of a few more tilts at the AIL crown in the coming years.
