Great Success for Clontarf Taekwon-Do at Nationals!
The National Taekwon-Do Championships were held this weekend in the spectacular setting of the University of Limerick. This was the first major tournament in 2 years and attended by students all over Ireland with some UK clubs also making the trip. It was a very professionally run event by the ITA the National Governing Body and its first for 2 years.
For local club Clontarf Taekwon-Do based in Belgrove Boys School it was a tournament to remember as they hit an all-time high of 19 Gold, 5 silver and 14 bronze medals over the 2 days propelling them to No 3 Club in Ireland!
In the black belt divisions, Club Captain Sarah Reddin Conroy from Clontarf also won best overall senior female while Cara Groenewald hit an amazing 3 gold in separate disciplines. National Team member Emma Mooney from Clontarf won her special technique division which is a great confidence boost ahead of the European Championships in 2 weeks in Spain. Luke Tighe in his first competition as a black belt took gold in sparring and bronze in patterns with Lucian Neumann taking silver in sparring in his category.
The Clontarf juniors were amazing over the two days and got their rewards for sticking the distance with Zoom, outdoor and eventually indoor training over the last 18 months, it's a real success story coming out of covid.
Well done to all involved including coach Gerry Mooney and the parents and guardians who have shown great support.
