Free Computer Classes For Over 55s In Clontarf

30 Jul 2015

Age Action Ireland will host free computer classes for over 55s in Clontarf, beginning this coming September.

The aim of the 'Getting Started Computer Training Promgramme', is to ensure no one is subject to digital exclusion. The classes are open to anyone over 55, with little to no experience in using the internet or computers of any kind.

Since 2006, Age Action has introduced over 27,000 older people in 12 counties around Ireland, to the basics of internet, computers and email. Training for computers, tablets and smartphones is provided by volunteers on a one-to-one basis, in a relaxed and informal environment.

The digital world be live in, can be both intimidating and frustrating for older generations. However, there are numerous benefits associated with becoming educated with computing and using the internet. Booking a flight or a hotel, ordering your weekly grocery shopping for delivery or paying household bills, can be done in seconds.

Another advantage is of course, keeping in contact with family living abroad. With the amount of Irish people living abroad in Australia, Asia, Canada and the U.S, the long journey and expensive fare, means that many families don't get to see eachother as much as they'd like. With internet training, you can instantly contact your relatives via email, and even have a face-to-face conversation on Skype!

This is a great opportunity for anyone over 55 in Clontarf, to become confident in using computers and online services. The places for these classes are sure to fill up fast, so if you or someone you know may be intererested, contact Getting Started on 01 475 6989.
