Evan Finnegan in Ireland U18s friendly against SwitzerlandWe recently reported that former Clontarf resident Evan Finnegan had been called up to the Republic of Ireland under 18’s squad to face their Swiss counterparts in Monthey, Switzerland.

Two friendly matches took place this week, on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th November in Monthey, Switzerland, and Evan Finnegan played in both.

Unfortunately Republic of Ireland's U18 side fell to a single goal loss in the Swiss friendly.

Ireland were unlucky not to open the scoring in the 44thminute when Aberdeen’s Alan O'Sullivan had a header from corner blocked and when Reading’s Sean Long pounced on the loose ball his close range effort was blocked out by Swiss keeper Leonard Kiener.

Manager Paul Doolin was pleased with the two friendlies played this week: "There were a lot of good performances from players like Evan Finnegan, Sean Long, Ben McLaughlin and Lyndon Gooch. It was a good exercise."
