We’re excited to celebrate the impressive career of Irish Paralympian and Clontarf native Ellen Keane, who has announced her retirement after many years of dedication. Ellen concluded her Paralympic journey with a commendable 4th place finish at her final Games in Paris.

Her journey began at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, where she made history as Ireland’s youngest-ever Paralympian at just 13 years old. Over the years, she has been recognised not only for her skill in the pool but also for her resilience and determination.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Ellen has been a role model and advocate, inspiring many with her perseverance and contributing to the visibility of athletes with disabilities. Her impact extends well beyond the medals she has won.

As we celebrate Ellen’s remarkable achievements, take a moment to watch the video below, where she reflects on her journey and her efforts to secure a spot in the Rio 2016 Paralympics. This video beautifully captures her early beginnings and the enduring spirit that has made her a true Irish icon.
