Concern About Increased Aircraft Noise Over North Dublin

16 Mar 2015

Recently, there has been concern regarding increased aircraft noise over North Dublin. Cllr Seán Haughey has raised these concerns with the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).

The DAA is to carry out essential maintenance works on its main runway 10/28. Phase 1 involving preparatory works is underway since early March and will last 9 weeks. Phase 2 consisting of major pavement overlay will commence in early 2016 and will continue for 18–24 months.

As a result, the main runway will close between 11.00pm and 5.00am, Monday- Friday, when flight operations will switch to the secondary runway 16/34.

“I am very concerned that this will lead to an unexpected increase in night-time aircraft noise over the North Dublin suburbs of Clontarf, Donnycarney and Beaumont”, said local FF Councillor, Sean Haughey.

“Local residents have not been adequately informed about these developments and I have received a number of complaints in this regard from worried householders”.

“The DAA needs to fully engage with the local communities in relation to these works and alleviate their concerns. In addition any disruption must be kept to an absolute minimum and the repairs should be completed in the fastest possible timeframe”, concluded Cllr. Haughey.
