Community Forum Meeting - Battle of Clontarf Commemorations and Update on the Bull Island

07 Nov 2013

Over the last twelve months representatives of Clontarf Residents Association, Clontarf Business Association, Clontarf Historical Society and Raheny Heritage Society have attended a series of national commemoration meetings with the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht in the Taoiseach’s offices in Merrion Street.  Since then these groups have been planning events for 2014 and following on from those initial meetings the four groups decided a few months ago to come together on a formal basis through the Clontarf 2014 Committee. The aim of the committee is to help co-ordinate the various events here in Clontarf and to work with Dublin City Council as part of their plans to ensure that the anniversary of the “Battle of Clontarf” is marked in Dublin. The priority is to  build a Calendar of Events and to produce a structured program of all events taking place in Clontarf in 2014. The committee is also working with other commemoration groups around the country; Killaloe Ballina, Cashel and Armagh.

Over the last number of  months the committee and the community groups here in Clontarf have been meeting to pull together the calender of events.

So, we are now taking this opportunity to reach out to the broader community, and we are holding an Open Evening / Community Forum Meeting  on Thursday 14th November at 8.15pm in Clontarf Rugby Club. All are welcome. This meeting is open to everyone,  so please spread the word.

We will present the latest  plans Nationally, for Dublin and for Clontarf.  A  Dublin City Council representative will also give an update on their plans. We will also be asking a number of the community groups  to present their plans at the meeting.

I am also delighted to tell you that Mr Leslie Moore, City Parks Superintendent, will also make a presentation on the ‘Bull Island UNESCO Biosphere’.

Please can you confirm your attendance by emailing us at 2014@loveclontarf.ie by 12th November 2013. We look forward to seeing you then.
