FEATURE: Come on the Bulls! - Be the 16th Man this Saturday

12 Apr 2012

Adrian D'Arcy & Timmy McCoy, Clontarf RugbyThe last time that Clontarf residents gathered in large numbers was last October and it was beside the Wooden Bridge. It provided a platform for a campaign against proposed flood defences that ultimately proved successful.

This coming Saturday, we need a similar show of strength from the people of Clontarf.

Our local rugby club have one finger on the All Ireland League trophy and a win against second placed St. Mary’s would almost certainly secure Clontarf’s first ever victory in the competition. This is also the last home match of the season and is a chance to acknowledge a herculean effort this year by Andy Wood’s men.

Put simply, the club needs as much support as possible on Saturday. You can be the ‘16th man’ by coming along to shout for ‘Tarf.

Last night (a windy Wednesday), we caught up with Andy Wood, along with the Club President John Glackin, Clontarf players Adrian D’Arcy and Timmy McCoy, as well as Shane Harnett from the Club. They explain how big the match is for the club, what visitors can expect on Saturday and how the team are preparing.

Watch the video feature here.  (Apologies for poor sound quality, particularly at the start of the video)

For rugby aficionados there is also a full length (4.5 mins) interview with Andy Wood which can be viewed here.

The match is televised on RTE so there’s an earlier kick off time of 1.15pm. You are of course not allowed to watch the match on TV unless you really can’t make it to the ground.

Here’s why you can’t miss this event…

  • Ticket prices seriously reduced on the day. Only €10 or 2 adults and unlimited children.
  • Best dressed junior spectator prize
  • Hot dog stands and burger vans
  • Your children (and yourself if you really want) can get a hug with Club mascot, Barry the Bull
  • If Clontarf win, you will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see large groups of grown men crying…
  • Best of all, you can say you were there….

So, find something red and blue, round up a posse and make your way to Castle Avenue on Saturday…. Come on the Bulls!!
