Coast Guard App In Development

26 Aug 2012

Last week, The Journal reported that a new iPhone app is being developed for the Coast Guard. According to Sean Kenny, Dublin Bay North TD, the app has the potential to save lives.

The app is currently in testing, and is being tested by a group of various seafarers across Ireland. The test group have been asked to test the app in a variety of situations, and to give feedback to the developers.

It is hoped that the promotion of this app will encourage people to let the coast guard know in advance if they are going out to sea, however, it is worth noting that the app will not replace VHF radio or emergency beacons.

It is hoped that the app will launch at the end of this year or early 2013.
