Clontarf to City Centre Cycle Route - Update from CRA

11 Aug 2017

In January of this year, Dublin City Council (DCC) lodged a Planning Application to provide a dedicated cycle route from Clontarf to Amiens Street.  We have posted about these proposals and the information days previously.   Full details of plans and all of the submissions made can be viewed here.

Part of these proposals includes the felling of a number of trees on the footpath bordering Fairview Park. You may have noticed a yellow ribbon tied around the trees that are due to be felled.

DCC clearly believe that their plan is the right one and felling the trees is a necessary part of that plan. As part of the plan, DCC are proposing to plant new trees to replace those that are felled. Full details of DCCs position in relation to the trees and this aspect of the cycle route can be found here.

The East Wall History Group have produced two very interesting articles on the trees and their importance and these articles can be read here

It is important that residents make themselves aware of the proposals and the counter position.  We would encourage you to make your views known to your local Councillors and we would welcome the views of the residents by email to clontarf.res.assoc@gmail.com.  A petition to save the trees has been set up and has gathered a lot of support.  If you wish to sign it you can do so by following this link.
