Clontarf Taekwon-Do @ European Championships

26 Mar 2018

With a little over 3 weeks to this year’s European Taekwon-Do Championships in Slovenia, Andreya Mooney (blue gloves) is making her final preparations for her first Championships in an Ireland Dobok. The 15-year-old from Clontarf Taekwon-do Club couldn’t have a better training partner to help in her preparations. Her cousin Rebecca (red gloves), who we've been following for a few years now at loveclontarf.ie, is the current European and World Champion in this category. Rebecca is taking a year out in order to concentrate on her leaving cert.

It is an achievement for Clontarf TKD to have a competitor from the same Club fill her spot but for it to be her cousin is truly unique. Andreya has received much support from the local community and her club are very grateful. Andreya will gain experience from this championship that will stand her well into future championships (she won the Leinster Open this past weekend 24th & 25th of March!). While she still has to gain experience at this level don’t be surprised if this young lady causes an upset to some of the older and more experienced European competitors in Slovenia.

The Irish Taekwon-do Association go into the Championships ranked number 1 in the World after their fantastic achievement at the World Championships in Dublin last year and while they may be going through a rebuilding phase, the future of Irish Taekwon-do looks very bright. Best of luck to Andreya and team Ireland in Slovenia.
