Clontarf Rugby Crowned All-Ireland League Champions After Aviva Thriller!
)
What a day for Clontarf! Our very own Clontarf Rugby Club are celebrating becoming Energia All-Ireland League Division 1A champions after a heart-stopping 22-21 victory against defending champions Cork Constitution at the Aviva Stadium. This marks the club's fourth top-flight title and their first since 2022, bringing the prestigious trophy back home to Castle Avenue.
In a performance reminiscent of Joey Carbery's final heroics back in 2016, it was another young talent, 21-year-old Hugh Cooney, who shone brightest on the big stage. Awarded Player of the Match, Cooney was simply immense – scoring a vital try, brilliantly setting up two others, and pulling off a potentially game-changing try-saving tackle. He truly stamped his authority on the final.
This incredible win caps off a phenomenal season for Clontarf Rugby, as it secures a prestigious All-Ireland Senior and Under-20 double – a testament to the incredible talent and hard work throughout the club, from the pitches at Castle Avenue right up to the Aviva Stadium.
Huge congratulations to Head Coach Andy Wood, Captain Dylan Donnellan, Player of the Match Hugh Cooney, the entire playing squad, the backroom staff, the volunteers, and all the supporters. You've done the parish proud!
