Clontarf Flood Defence - Important Notice

As part of the on-going work of the Joint Working Group regarding the Clontarf Promenade Development and Flood Defence Project,  Dublin City Council has committed to undertake a new modelling exercise of the level of flood defence required. This is scheduled to be completed at the end of May 2015 and at that stage Dublin City Council will share the findings with the Joint Working Group. The Joint Working Group comprises Dublin City Council representatives from the Area Office, the Engineering Architecture and Parks Departments as well as: as well as four representatives from the Clontarf Area.

DRAFT FLOOD MAPS – AREAS OF DUBLIN CITY

On Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 March draft flood maps showing the potential extend of flooding in five areas of Dublin city will go on display in Dublin Civic Offices.

The maps set out the risk of coastal flooding in Clontarf and Sandymount and river flooding in Dublin city centre, Chapalizod and Raheny. They also cover the stretch of coastline from the Wooden Bridge along James Larkin Road to the junction of the Howth Road. The overall area in Clontarf covered is from Fairview Park, through the Clontarf Promenade to the Wooden Bridge up to St Anne’s Park and further along the causeway to the junction of the coast road with the Howth Road.

The maps, which do not include any detail of flood defence proposals or designs, are produced as part of a nationwide programme of flood risk assessment being managed by the OPW in consultation with relevant local authorities as a requirement of the EU Floods Directive. The full name of this programme is Catchment-based Flood Risk Assessment and Management or CFRAM and more information can be found on www.cfram.ie. Engineering Consultants RPS Group PLC are conducting the CFRAM programme have produced these maps for the OPW.
