Clontarf Cycling Club - launch tomorrow!

28 Feb 2013

Don't forget, the Clontarf Cycling Club officially launches tomorrow.

Clontarf Cycling club started as an idea between a group of like-minded mad hatters with the plan to start a small club for weekend spins. PJ Gallagher, Ger Devine, Ronan O’Neill and Diarmaid McStay came together and the seed was sown. Through great perseverance and Trojan work the club formed.

What started out last summer as an idea is now a fully-fledged Cycling Ireland affiliated club with over 60 members and another 30-40 on the way. Ages range from teenagers to the 60+ (no names) both female and male.

The club caters for all comers with a mantra that all whom start together finish together. There are various groups and abilities and groups are set up to cater for all levels.

Sean Lally is the chairman of the club and his family are steeped in Irish cycling heritage, also involved is Cathal Miller whom represented Ireland at the Paralympics in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and is an integral part organising the spins.

There are a number of “Road Captains” whom organise groups, distances, routes etc to ensure safety and essentially give some advice on bike handling, group riding, maintenance, general cycle fitness tips. The club are not a racing club but see themselves as a leisure/sportive based club that welcome all comers. The club committee have put together a schedule for the year of club spins, sportives and weekly rides. These are available on the Facebook page here.

The club has both a Twitter account and a Facebook page and are in the process of creating a web page also.

Clontarf GAA have kindly provided the club use of its facilities and as a result there is now a clubhouse, notice board, coffee and tea making facilities, changing area etc.

The official club launch takes place on the 1st of March in Clontarf GAA clubhouse and all are welcome.
