Clontarf Community Games

06 Mar 2012

After a lengthy absence, the Community Games are coming back to Clontarf. Here’s a brief run down on what’s happened so far.

Last year there was an art competition, with the help of the primary schools, to design a logo for the games. The winning entry – the wonderful ‘Vinny the Viking’ - was drawn by Sadhbh O’Sullivan from Belgrove Senior Girls school.  Prizes and medals were awarded to the winner and 3 runners-up in their schools.

This year there has been 2 events so far, with more to come shortly. Children must live in Clontarf to participate – this rule is enforced at HSE Community Games level.

Table Quiz: The Clontarf Heat will be held this Fri. 9th March: entries need to be in by Thursday.

Entrants must be under 14, so generally from 5th, 6th classes and 1st years. Anyone can enter with their friends – they don’t have to be in the same school.  It's €2 per child (to be collected on the night) and teams can be boys only, girls only or mixed. The winning team will represent Clontarf in the Dublin Finals on Fri. 23rd March.

Cross country: Training has recently started on Tuesdays 5-6pm at pitch 21 (beside Vernon Ave health centre) in St Anne's Park.  David Cahill (a teacher in Belgrove) is leading the training.   5th and 6th classes and 1st year can take part in this activity. Dublin finals are 28th March with no limit on number of children from Clontarf. Also relay teams can be entered.

Other activities: There are plans to start swimming, athletics, rounders and drama in the next month or so and there will be updates on loveclontarf.ie.
