Clontarf Castle goes electric!

27 Feb 2013

Clontarf Castle ecarClontarf Castle has gone electric with a new ecar charge point! They have joined a network of Green Hotels across Ireland by having an electric vehicle charge point installed at the hotel, in association with ESB ecars.

The charge point was installed as part of the Green Hotel Drive, a partnership between ESB ecars, Fáilte Ireland and the Environmental Protection Agency to provide electric vehicle (EV) charge points to up to 100 hotels nationwide. This initiative forms part of the national EV charge-point roll out by ESB as well as supporting the development of green tourism in Ireland.

There has been a very positive response to the Green Hotel Drive since its launch. Already, close to 60 green-accredited hotels have had charge points installed, with many more still to come.

General Manager of the hotel, Mark Long said

“Clontarf Castle Hotel is committed to environmental leadership within our community. We are dedicated to making our business as “green” as possible and are committed to working towards sustainable tourism in Ireland. This ecars initiative by ESB is a welcome one and one which we anticipate an increasing demand for over in the future.”

With a range of electric cars entering the motoring market, more drivers are looking for convenient places to charge their vehicles. Hotels like Clontarf Castle are an ideal location as electric car drivers can charge during an overnight stay or "top up" while in meetings or during a meal. All participating hotels are listed on the ESB ecars charge point map where drivers can view the location of the network of 1,000 installed charge points.

ESB ecars Manager, Dermot McArdle said

“We are delighted with the take-up of the Green Hotels Initiative so far and pleased that Clontarf Castle has decided to join the increasing network of hotels committed to sustainable tourism in Ireland.”

Green-accredited hotels must be certified under one of the following schemes - Green Hospitality Award, EU Flower, Green Tourism Business Scheme, STEP or EcoTourism Ireland and be a Fáilte Ireland registered hotel.
