Clontarf 2014 - Launch of plans to mark the Millenium of The Battle of Clontarf

13 Jun 2013

Next year is a big year for Clontarf as we mark 1000 years since of The Battle of Clontarf.

The battle took place on Good Friday, which fell on 23rd April at the time. There will be a fortnight of events around Easter next year and others throughout the year.

Plans are still at an early stage, but one activity that is well underway by the Clontarf and Raheny Historical Societies is the creation of a Heritage Trail along the promenade.

The Clontarf Historical Society and Raheny Historical Society have been working with Dublin City Council and other parties to create a lasting legacy in Clontarf, providing a history of The Battle of Clontarf as well as setting it in the context of Brian Boru and life at the time.

The plans for the Heritage Trail will be unveiled at The Gathering of the Vikings Festival on Saturday -  we would welcome everyone to come along and find out about it.

We will be at the Clontarf Residents Association tent, so please take this opportunity to say hello!
