Bull Island Seals - Recent Disturbances

01 Sep 2016

We would like to remind all our readers to be aware that the Bull Island is home to a number of grey seals which are a protected species.

Unfortunately, last weekend it was reported that a newborn seal pup was found dead on the North Bull Island. It is unclear what the circumstances were, but it is thought that the groups of seals are being disturbed by humans and dogs, are retreating to the sandbank and are becoming too vulnerable for successful nursing.

Seals birth during the summer months and so, visitors to the island SHOULD NOT approach seals and NEVER let dogs near them.

We are so lucky to have this wildlife on our doorstep, so please be respectful of it, and if you see anything please report it.
