Boat Launch and Celebrations at Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club
Building the Boat
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the IDRA14, a two-person wooden racing dinghy, a team of amateur boat builders from the Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club have built the first one in over 35 years.
With no boat building experience, the group led by Ronan Melling quickly discovered that it takes a community to build a boat as they sought advice, practical support and instruction from experts and enthusiasts across Ireland and the UK.
The Launch
The clicker boat has taken three years to complete and will be officially launched at 12:30 on Saturday, June 25th at the slip across from the Clontarf Yacht and Boat club. Boats from clubs across Dublin will join the new IDRA14 whose top secret name will be revealed on the day. Come along to see the launch and hear the Harold’s Cross Brass Band who will be there to provide music for the launch. Afterwards, from 3pm Bryan Smyth will entertain in the Club with live music. All are welcome to attend.
