Anger as Buscle lane to be trialled in Clontarf

01 Apr 2019

Residents are once again complaining about lack of consultation as Dublin City Council have indicated that a new traffic management solution is to be tested on the Clontarf road.

The new scheme involves allowing buses to also use the new cycle lane that runs from the causeway to the Wooden Bridge. Buses and cyclists will compete for space on the new 'Buscle' lane but only during rush hour.

It is hoped that the new scheme will free up valuable space on the Clontarf road for hard-pressed motorists and reduce journey times through Clontarf.

A similar idea was previously tried in Copenhagen but was discontinued soon after.

Local resident, Vernon Lawrence, is unhappy that the scheme begins this week with very little public consultation. “the idea seems to have emerged from a brief but heated discussion that took place between a group of cyclists and some bus drivers last week over choc ices at the petrol station beside the bus garage.”

We have reached out to Dublin City Council and the Clontarf Residents’Association for comment.
