A group of young Irish Runners have teamed up with the mindful running app, Lupa, to start a monthly Beach Cleanup group in Dublin. The idea is for locals to get together for a 5k run on a beach and clean up any rubbish that they find en route. The idea comes from a Swedish activity called Plogging (A mix of the words Jogging & Plocka Upp, 'to pick up' in Swedish) and this group will be Ireland's first official plogging group.
Their first event was on Dollymount Strand last Sunday 17th October. A group of local runners, who were blessed with the weather, got together to run 5k and picked up nearly 5kg of rubbish from the beach.
The event is a combination of promoting mental health, physical health, and the environmental health of our community, and will be taking place again on Dollymount Strand on the 14th of November at 9:30 am.
