Gerry Nayna would be well known to anyone that frequents Tillie’s Restaurant on St. Gabriel’s Rd. Up until a few weeks ago the 22 year old from Mauritius was the face that lit up with a wonderful smile as he took orders from the restaurants patrons.

Gerry has been in Ireland since 2006 with his mother and is studying Pharmacy in DIT.  As he was born outside the EU, he is not entitled to any type of grant and therefore is working to fund his fees, books and accommodation for himself and his mother.

Three weeks ago Gerry contracted a virus that went to his brain, causing Encephalitis. He is now seriously ill in hospital.

Everyone who knows Gerry was shocked at the news and asked Tina and Ellie (owners of Tillie’s) ‘What can we do to help?’

Unfortunately, money is and will be a problem for Gerry and his mum until he is able to work again. In response to this situation, the Third Day Chorale has organised this concert and has produced a fantastic line up of artists. All of whom are giving their services for free. They include Ruaidhrí Ó Dálaigh, Dublin Male Voice Choir, Mahon Kennedy, Bryan Hoey, Pauline Cooper, Margaret Ó Dálaigh & Gerry Noonan. Full details - click here.

Tickets can be bought from Tillie’s or by contacting 087 9016430. Tickets will also be available on the door on the night.

For anyone who can’t make it but would like to donate to this worthy cause, there is a Gerry Nayna Fund account at AIB, Artane, sort code 93 20 78 and a/c no. 33502007
