Village Wooing at the Viking Theatre

11 Feb 2013 - 23 Feb 2013 The Viking Theatre
An upper class travel writer meets a chatty phone operator. On the deck of the cruise ship, the Empress of Patagonia, an upper class travel writer has his work interrupted by a chatty young phone operator with romantic intentions. Despite his crabby reluctance, he is gradually drawn into conversation and they embark on an hilarious bout of verbal jousting in which all sorts of personal secrets are revealed. Shaw’s classic comedy Village Wooing is famous for its exploration of the mystical and inexplicable nature of sexual love. It has been enduringly popular since its first production in 1934 and the two mismatched lovers have been played by such luminaries as Cyril Cusack and Siobhan McKenna, Richard Briers and Judi Dench.
