Talk: Dublin Mansion House by Dr.Mary Clarke
The Clontarf Historical Society's March 2017 talk is entitled: Dublin Mansion House by Dr.Mary Clarke
Dublin’s Mansion House marked its 300th anniversary in 2015. It is the only mayoral residence in Ireland which is still used to house the Lord Mayor and it is older than any surviving Mansion House in Britain. It has a hallowed place in Ireland’s national history, as the location of the First Dáil, which met in the Mansion House Round Room in 1919. It has been the centre of the city’s hospitality since 1715 . As a result it has established itself in the affections of generations of Dubliners. This illustrated talk gives an overview of this rich history.
Note: Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 8.15pm from September to June in the Resource Centre, in the grounds of St.John the Baptist Church, Clontarf Road
