Sail Against Suicide 2016!

17 Sep 2016 - 17 Sep 2016 Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club,

Clontarf local Jessica Clohisey, a student leader Ambassador for Cycle Against Suicide, hosted an event called 'Sail Against Suicide' last year in the Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club in order combat the negative stigma surrounding mental health. It was met with overwhelming support from the community with businesses and restaurants, local celebrities and sports stars, radio and newspaper coverage, local TDs and representatives, and of course Clontarf residents turning out in force.

The Event

Sail Against Suicide takes place again this year in the CYBC with the aim of spreading the message that it's ok not to feel ok, and it's absolutely ok to ask for help. This is a free event - food, drinks, and entertainment will be provided. You don't have to be a sailor or a member of CYBC to attend, and if anyone would like to get on out on a boat they'll try their very best to accommodate. The event is on throughout the day, 12pm - 6pm, and you can even bring your dog!

Why?

The purpose of this event simply to raise awareness of the mental health issues we have in Ireland, and while over €1,000 euro was kindly donated last year which was split between Cycle Against Suicide and Aware - this is not a fundraising event. The idea is to bring the topic of mental well-being into focus within our community. We encourage residents of Clontarf and beyond to attend and help raise the profile of mental health in Ireland - together we can end the cycle of suicide.
