Irish Wheelchair Association debut Inclusive Charity Cycle

31 Jul 2013 - 31 Jul 2013 From the Phoenix Park Dublin to Eyre Square Galway

The cycle will pass through some of Ireland’s most beautiful countryside and will arrive just in time to celebrate Ladies Day at the Galway Races. The cycle is inclusive to all cyclists and IWA are hoping that people with disabilities and other mobility issues will join the group using hand-cycles or adapted cycles. Joining the IWA Team will be Irish Paralympic Cyclist Cathal Miller and comedian PJ Gallagher who are members of the Clontarf Cycling Club.

Speaking about the upcoming inclusive cycle Cathal said:

‘We were delighted to be invited to join Irish Wheelchair Association on their first charity cycle. It is the perfect platform to promote disability cycling and cycling as a whole. The Association provides important opportunities for young people with disabilities, through their youth cafes and sporting programmes nationwide. This cycle is a tough challenge, but a great introduction to sports cycling and events. I encourage all cyclists, whether you are a beginner or advanced to register for the challenge and join the IWA team this August’.

All funds generated through sponsorship and donations will be used to support the range of programmes provided by IWA-Sport and Youth Services. IWA-Sport is dedicated to developing and promoting sport and recreational opportunities for people with a physical disability to participate in sport at a level of their choice. The ethos of the IWA Youth Service is one of partnership and openness with its young members and all activities and programmes are driven by their needs and requirements.
