Experiences of a French Emigrant Family in Ireland

10 Apr 2017 - 10 Apr 2017 Resource Centre, St. John the Baptist Church, Seafield Road. Clontarf Dublin. 3

The Clontarf Historical Society's April 2017 talk is entitled: Experiences of a French Emigrant Family in Ireland during the mid nineteenth century and their connections to East Wall, North Strand and Fairview. by Paul Bosonnet

After the French Revolution the Family, two of whom were teachers, came to Ireland and settled initially in Dundalk and finally in East Wall/North Strand/Fairview areas.

Whilst the talk initially refers to the difficulties the family experienced during the French Revolution a short reference is also made to the time the Family spent in Dundalk; however most of the paper focuses on the period the family spent in the East Wall and North Strand/Fairview areas, and to famous persons associated with the area during the later half of the nineteenth century - Sean O Casey, Canon Hall, James Joyce and Matt Talbot.

Note: Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 8.15pm from September to June in the Resource Centre, in the grounds of St.John the Baptist Church, Clontarf Road
