CY&BC; Talk: Gregor McGuckin Solo Around the World
Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club is delighted to welcome Gregor McGuckin to speak at their Winter Talk series on Friday 6th April at 8.30 pm.
Gregor McGuckin will compete in the Golden Globe Race 2018 for Ireland. McGuckin (30), who lives in Clontarf, hopes to complete the historical race which has 25 entrants from America, Austria, Brazil, Italy, Norway, Palestine, Russia and Switzerland.
The Golden Globe Race is one like no other, it is a solo, non-stop and unassisted race around the world using only technology available in the 1960s. Meaning no GPS, no phone, no internet - not even CDs! It marks 50 years since Sir Robert Knox Johnston circumnavigated the globe non-stop and single-handed and over the course of 9 months, from July 2018 to April 2019, McGuckin hopes to do the same!
