Clontarf Historical Society talk by Ian Sargent

10 Jun 2013 - 10 Jun 2013 Clontarf Yacht & Boat Clubhouse
Please note that the meeting on this night will be held in Clontarf Yacht Club clubhouse. The next upcoming Clontarf Historical Society talk will be held this Monday, June 10th, at 8.15pm in Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club. The talk will be titled ‘The history of Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club’ and will be given by Ian Sargent. Clontarf Yacht and Boat Club, one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country, was founded in 1875 at a time when the area was about to undergo significant change. Along with Clontarf Cricket Club and Clontarf Rugby Club, with which it was closely associated in the 19th and early 20th century, it is one of the institutions that gives Clontarf its special character. Speaker Ian Sargent is the honorary secretary of the yacht club, and his talk will be about the history of the club from its earliest days to the present time. Instead of the normal venue of the St John’s Parish Resource Centre, they have been invited to hold this talk in Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club on the seafront, where the members have also invited us to complimentary tea/coffee etc afterwards.
