Clontarf Historical Society - June Talk!
The Clontarf Historical Society's June 2017 talk is entitled: Herman Gortz A German spy in Ireland during the World War II by James Scannell. (The story of the man who was head of the German Espionage network in Ireland and who took refuge in Clontarf).
Of the 12 German intelligence gatherers sent to Ireland during the Emergency, Captain Herman Goertz, who wore full military uniform when parachuted into Ireland, was the only one not arrested within days of landing and remained free for over 18 months, meeting a variety of people before he was finally arrested in Clontarf.
Note: Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 8.15pm from September to June in the Resource Centre, in the grounds of St.John the Baptist Church, Clontarf Road
